R/Hr or Death?
I'm seriously thinking about removing [info]bottom_draco and [info]hpstoryfinders from my friend list and de-friending them.

For Bottom_D, every single story is H/D, without fail. I thought it was supposed to be about variety and creativity! Sure, it's a popular pairing. Sure there's no accounting for the people that join posting what they just happen to like. But Jesus, it's like nobody wants to post a thing that isn't H/D. There are plenty of other pairings to resort to, my OTP (Ron Draco forever, a-ha-men) excluded. Oliver/Draco? Percy/Draco? Twins/Draco! Snape/Draco, even! Where the fuck is the Snape/Draco? Oh, right- coupled with H/D.

And on and on... )

The Fandom's stagnating. All that'll be left in a few years will be SS/HP, SS/HG, and R/HR. How I miss the golden days of fanfiction.

But I'm just being pessimistic and annoyed. There are still plenty of communities out there where the same old is not permitted. I just have to find it.

Moss Says Hello
Someone on [info]ontd_hp posted this website yesterday. After visiting it, I decided to try a mirror picture. It's not perfect. That's ok!

Couldn't figure out how to draw the sink, so I converted the room into the bedroom. After that, I had to forget the original idea, which ought to be left up to people with a less cartoon-y style anyway because it's supposed to be serious.
You can tell it's serious because it's not spelled s-r-s.

Think I'll put a warning here, though, because it's a touchy subject.

Kick!
My old room mate, Benny, told me about a website that wanted t-shirt designs. It would be fun to send this one in, but it needs something. If I had the talent to draw bubbles, I'd make letter shaped bubbles and music note bubbles.

If someone has an idea for creative coloring, please do it (permission) or tell me.

Looked up Yaoi games. From Yaoi games to Yaoi fangirls. From Yaoi fagirls to youtube videos of Yaoi fangirls at conventions. It made me smile, and it made me remember the old days.

*Gets crotchety*

I liked boy on boy action before it was cool. This I know to be true. You fangirls these days have it soo-ooo-ooo easy. Back in my day, we had to draw our own pictures of gay love. By candle light. Uphill both ways. Now you've got your yaoi sites and your manga right in the book store and your internet trading communities! Back in my day, all we had James from Pokemon, with only a few hints of his homosexuality and nobody to ship him with and we were greatful to have him.

Get off my lawn!

GET OFF MY LAWN

Sure I'm Late; Sure You've Seen It

Kick!
Wish that I'd gotten online sooner, but I've been getting up at 6:40 for work. You've probably already seen this in some form or heard of it somehow, but in the off chance that this is new to someone, I post this up. New drawings next post, I promise.

Bolded is mine because I didn't like how accusatory it sounded. My addition didn't do much, but I know that most of you (if not all), despite the fact that you are aware of the bad things you're going through, already know how fortunate you are on the whole. You're good people that don't need to be reminded of that and that don't need guilt trips.

If you are reading this right now, you are aware that you have more luxury than someone in Iran could ever hope for right now. If you are watching TV or a video on youtube, updating your status on Facebook, Tweeting, or even texting your friend, you are lucky. If you are safe in your home, and were able to sleep last night without the sounds of screaming from the rooftops, you need to know and understand what is happening to people just like you in Iran right now.

They are not the enemy. They are a people whose election has been stolen. For the first time in a long time, a voice for change struck the youth of Iran, just as it did for many people in the United States only seven months ago. Hossein Mousavi gained the support of millions of people in Iran as a Presidential candidate. He stands for progressiveness. He supports good relations with the West, and the rest of the world. He is supported with fervor as he challenges the oppressive regime of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

On Friday, millions of people waited for hours in line to vote in Iran's Presidential election. Later that night, as votes came in, Mousavi was alerted that he was winning by a two-thirds margin. Then there was a change. Suddenly, it was Ahmadinejad who had 68% of the vote - in areas which have been firmly against his political party, he overwhelmingly won. Within three hours, millions of votes were supposedly counted - the victor was Ahmadinejad. Immediately fraud was suspected - there was no way he could have won by this great a margin with such oppposition. Since then, reports have been coming in of burned ballots, or in some cases numbers being given without any being counted at all. None of this is confirmed, but what happened next seems to do the trick.

The people of Iran took the streets and rooftops. They shout "Death to the dictator" and "Allah o akbar." They join together to protest. Peacefully. The police attack some, but they stay strong. Riots happen, and the shouting continues all night. Text messaging was disabled, as was satellite, and websites which can spread information such as Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and the BBC are blocked in the country. At five in the morning, Arabic speaking soldiers (the people of Iran speak Farsi) stormed a university in the capital city of Tehran. While sleeping in their dormitories, five students were killed. Others were wounded. These soldiers are thought to have been brought in by Ahmadinejad from Lebanon. Today, 192 of the university's faculty have resigned in protest.

Mousavi requested that the government allow a peaceful rally to occur this morning - the request was denied. Many thought that it would not happen. Nevertheless, first a few thousand people showed up in the streets of Tehran. At this point, it is estimated that 1 to 2 million people were there. Mousavi spoke on the top of a car. The police stood by. For a few hours, everything was peaceful. Right now, the same cannot be said. Reports of injuries, shootings, and killings are flooding the internet. Twitter has been an invaluable source - those in Iran who still know how to access it are updating regularly with picture evidence. People are being brutally beaten. Tonight will be another night without rest for so many in Iran no older than I am. Tonight there is a Green Revolution.

Calling All Slashers- Help

  • Jun. 7th, 2009 at 12:35 AM
It Sucks
One of my ship-mates on F.A.P, though not a troll, has a habit of making borderline inflammatory and generalizing remarks on the boards regarding slashers and slash fanfiction. He sent me an owl.

So, to use your analogy, I'm going to go to your sushi restaurant, and I'm going to try it. If ANY of those fics is any good, I'll give up on generalizations. And you'd better respect my judgement if I don't like it. It's a matter of taste, and isn't that what VENOM is all about?

Seems like an awful lot of work just to get him to say things like "some slashers" and "a few things I've seen", but I see this as one step towards understanding and ship unity.

Help me out here- this is a call for the finest that slash fanfiction has to offer. I've got four days and I want to make this good. So far I have Two-
Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have and More Than Books but I don't trust myself not to give him something that's completely off-putting. If you have any suggestions and links, I'd love to hear them.

To keep in mind
-Nothing with graphic sex. If you can, make it a pg-16 at the highest rating.
-He isn't too fond of Draco, so no Harry/Draco
- I'm trying to show him that not all slash fanfiction turns one or both men "femme-y" (a generalization he loves to make about both fictional and real life gay/bisexual men). Fics that prove his idea wrong are best.

Also in this post: Drabble planning with one of the mods from Draco/Ron. Ignore the umber of comments and send me your fics, everyone.

Hello, ONTDers! I see you've come to answer my question. It's easy, but I'd love it if you expanded on your answer. Share a story, too, if you want.

What scene(s)/Part(s) in Up made you/your movie watching companion cry?

Show me your battle scars, bishes! Share!

Did you participate in the Harry Potter Civil Fandom Wars? Of course I did!

What were your tour dates? I joined during the OotP releases, when there were still spoiler tags on pictures and information on Sirius being dead. From what I understand (or what I saw) at that point, there was still just a lot of speculation and hope and many essays on why this side or that side was right.

Harley Quinn and Twilight

  • Oct. 20th, 2008 at 12:58 PM
Hermione/Luna Scrabble
The first time I encountered Harley Quinn was during the animated series. I don't know how old I was, but I do remember it was the explanation episode where she went into her background. I watched up until the flashback ended and someone came in and told me to switch it off (I wasn't allowed to watch violent-ish cartoons).

So I'm not claiming to have a Batman background in this post, but damnit it's not difficult to see fandom trends. Internet fandom dynamics is easy to figure out. They all have the same sub-caves.

The fangirls have noticed that people will leave their stories alone if they don't contain the letters O,F, and C next to the Joker's name. They then noticed Harley Quinn. Then, they figured out that with that body suit and face paint, just about anyone can be Harley, if you get what I'm saying. I love reading sporked Joker fanfics, though. So for Chrissake people, can we establish some rules for Nolanverse? I'll start:

-Nolanverse is more realistic. Penguin isn't showing up. Poison Ivy is doubtful (sad, 'cause I know it could be epic and groundbreaking, on par with TDK).
-NV Joker is different, too. He's got more things going on upstairs. He doesn't work with a Harley Quinn, or any person, really. Gonna go out on a limb here and say that the guy is more or less asexual. Definitely a-romantic, but asexual definitely.
- I take it back. NV Harley-Joker could work, but it'd be so brutal, so abusive, so... nasty that the directors would have to slap it with an R-rating. I'm talking making her mute by ripping her tongue out.
- NV Joker could benefit greatly from a shower

The makers of these lists always have the risk of epic backlash. I'm expecting it, and that's alright. If I have to modify it, I will, because I'm quite the internet coward diplomatic and word weasly.

So here's some Twilight hater art.

I'd like to adopt a more serious style.
